Summer Reading

Every year at the end of the school year, my students' parents start asking what they can do to continue/review/extend their child's learning throughout the summer months. I usually recommend books at and slightly above each kid's independent reading level and provide the parents with question stems to discuss those books with them. I also share some of my favorite workbooks and websites for continued practice.

This year, because the kids haven't actually been in school since March, I thought it would be helpful to put together a more detailed list of summer reading activities for parents that is differentiated to meet the needs of all of the different learners in my class.

SUMMER READING

Below is a list of books for summer reading organized by reading level. For the higher level books, I have included novel studies, reading guides, and teaching guides which include comprehension questions and a variety of activities to promote learning through reading! For the lower level books, I tried to include high interest books that I hope will be engaging and will foster a love of reading!
