Martin Luther King Jr. Day

Martin Luther King Jr. has given us so many wonderful reasons to celebrate! On top of the fact that he peacefully fought for equality and brought a civil rights act and a voting act about that established equal rights for people of all colors, he is also the reason that us teachers (and most Americans) have a THREE DAY WEEKEND!!!! Woohoo! So I was thinking - what better way to celebrate his legacy than to read and analyze different kinds of texts about him, review using context clues, and practice summarizing?!?

The kids have been working really hard in my classroom this week, so I thought this would be a fun way to spend our Friday afternoon. I created some MLK Jr. themed context clues task cards and text structure task cards and printed out 5 sets of each. I'll be setting these up around the room, giving partners the sheets to record their answers, and letting them travel around at their own pace. Here's a peek at what the unit looks like: (click on the picture if you would like to purchase!)
